The ACM Blog

First off... I've been trying to come up with a concise blog about the ACM's for a week now, and I've failed.

Second off... does anyone even care about the ACM's this year?

To be honest, it's become such a convoluted hodge podge of confusion, I'm not sure anyone does. First off there's this whole craziness in some of the awards being fan voted, and some of them not. I'm sorry, but you need to decide -- are you an industry award, or a fan award? Because taking the Entertainer of the Year award and the 37 years of history behind it and making it fan voted is a crock. Kenny said that last year, and he won it. If you want to make a category fan voted, create a Fan Favorite award.

This year they've made a New Artist award that is fan voted. Not quite as bad.

We won't go down the "Why do we have separate Group & Duo categories" road again... y'all know I believer there's not enough quality there to fill 10 slots and they should make it one.

Adding to all of the confusion is that half of the awards have already been given out. The show tonight is nothing more than a performance showcase, which in my humble opinion, is what they should do. Forget the awards, call it the ACM All Star Showcase and put it back in May Sweeps.

J.'s Prediction: Carrie Underwood Entertainer of the Year. I've seen her fans in action.

I don't like that prediction but it wouldn't suprise me. I just don't think she deserves it yet. Stupid fan voting thing. It really ticks me off and makes the awards show into nothing more than who has the most fans who are internet obsessed. People like reba and george have older fans who are less likely to sit in front of a computer and vote.. Don't even get me started on ticketmaster's voting plea for kenny chesney. So wrong!

Honestly, I love country music and would watch the show regardless of how the votes are tallied. (it's kind of killing me this year that I'm not there and working it) But, the only reason I'm even looking forward to the show this year is because my favorite person ever is hosting and performing her new smash hit :) Normally, I'd just have it on in the background while I did homework.

Whew! well those are my opinions.

I want more scoop on Tim getting booted off the show!!! :D

Kendel said...

sandi,

the long story short version is that he didn't agree with the production elements in his performance so he walked out of rehearsal yesterday and didn't come back. I think they said Blake Shelton is performing in his place. J might have more scoop than I do though :)

what a diva. :) Thanks!

I agree with Kendel. The only people that vote on these things are computer saavy. Also, I don't like most of the people in the country music category today so I really don't care about this show. I am not surprised about Tim. I always thought he was a prima donna. My husband might watch it because he likes Carrie Underwood but I am sure I can find a better way to spend my time.

This is one of the shows I'm not to sad I can't get here. But I do love seeing Reba host. She is awesome. I like Blake Shelton too. Brad already got two of the awards, stupid they give them out in advance. But happy for Brad. I've heard he isn't spotted in Vegas yet. Maybe because his wife is having the baby any day now...?
I'm would rather see the George Strait Artist of the decade tomorrow.

P.S. I think your prediction for Entertainer is right. Her fans are crazy lol

And for the ticketmaster plea, Kendel. They did it for the other artists too. Got one for Brad, and heard about others too :)

WOW. Taylor looks amazing!

Producer J. said...

You know... this performance was not about Tim... it was about George Strait.

Sad. Yay for Blake though.

sandi said...

Blake is cracking me up. And Miranda--love her! Can't wait to hear her new song.

Kendel said...

ps:: I've heard the tim is still performing at the george tribute, just not on the show tonight. He was allegedly supposed to do both.

Producer J. said...

Yeah, him and Faith were singing a George song together tonight.

sandi said...

I thought Toby was boycotting awards shows...

Producer J. said...

No, just CMA's, because they don't nominate him.

sandi said...

If you rearrange ACM you get CMA...

Producer J. said...

LMAO -- don't tell anyone at either organization that!

Told ya on the Entertainer thing.

Poor Kenny... she probably sold 1/3 of the tickets he did.

sandi said...

Her fans are just ruthless.

But seriously..they need to make this all fan voted or all not fan voted. And if it's fan voted, what's the point of the CMT Awards???

UGH What a waste of an evening. Thrilled that Trace won an award. Loved seeing Keith. And that was about it.

What was with handing out 2'Crystal Milestone' awards? Last year it was introduced as a lifetime achievement sort of award, this year they gave it out to people who've been around less than 5 years?

"If you want to make a category fan voted, create a Fan Favorite award."

Funny, I think I said those exact words to Becky this morning (I swear I didn't read this post first). If you put the same people up against each other in four completely different categories, and made them all fan voted, the same artist (whoever has the most dedicated online fanbase) would win all of them. The category has no meaning at that point -- it's purely a popularity contest. I don't particularly mind popularity contests, as long as they're labeled as such. They should just make one category a fan popularity category and leave the rest of them alone.

Anyway, I had a great time in Vegas and am now completely exhausted (the All Star Jam kept me up past 2 AM which is WAAAAY past my normal bed time, and then I had to get up early this morning). So I'll stop here and go get some sleep ;-)

Been away for a few days, but I agree with you 100%. That being said, I'm glad Kenny didn't win it again this year, but don't think it was Carrie's turn yet either.

POOO! I had a family issue and wasn't able to watch. Do they re-air this show? If I remember correctly they don't. There really are only a couple parts I want to see (J - I bet you can guess what they might be!) I'm very happy for the big guy - I just wish I could have seen it!

I don't like the fan voted stuff - after being involved with Nashville Star a couple years ago and see how scewed numbers can be based on how many computer savy people you have in your group - it's very disheartening. I don't believe it's truly fan represented (even if it says - one vote per fan - that's now what's going on)

You people in the industry get a break now? Catch up on your sleep? CRS and ACM's are close together!

I think GAC re-airs it at some point.

I'm banking on it being re-aired. My VCR's clock (I know, I'm still a dinosaur) switched to DST after I manually changed it when the time changed a couple of weeks ago, and when I got home after 10pm and realized the VCR had stopped recording, I had missed about 10-15 minutes (shortly after Reba's performance and just as Carrie was walking off the stage after winning Female Vocalist.
