Worst Christmas Carol Ever

At some point in the past couple years of my blog life, we had a discussion about the worst Christmas carol ever. And someone and given me a song that was pretty much Music to Slit Your Wrist By.

I'm trying to find that... I remember I banned it from Music City Holiday... I have it in my head that maybe it was Dwight Yoakam... but a lot of his music has sad depressing suicidal tendancies, and I'm getting depressed just trying to find it. Or was it Travis Tritt?

Anyone remember that conversation?

I think it might have been Come On Christmas by Dwight Yoakam. A really depressing song.

This is probably a dumb question but what channel is Music City Christmas on?

Producer J. said...

It's not. No Country Christmas channel this year.

Yeay! Although that explains why there's so much Christmas music on the Highway and Roadhouse. :)

Well poop.

Actually there's only one song on an hour. But this way a channel didn't have to go away. XM used to take down US Country, and Sirius took down Roadhouse. But the tons of hate mail we got over it convinced them not to do that this year. :-)

There is a "Holly Channel' I think it's XM Channel 35. It's all kinds of music and they are playing a lot of different Christmas music (not necessarily familiar to me anyway). BUT it is all Christmas all the time.

Are you sure it's only one song an hour? Cause I listen all day at work, and I'm pretty sure it's been more than that...maybe I'm just switching between 16 and 17 at the right times and hitting them back to back or something.

I'll pay closer attention today. :)

I think it is more than one an hour myself unless that one may play later in the hour then the next one early in the next hour.

As much as I hated US Country taken down for Dec, I didn't mind as it was a Country Christmas Channel that took over.

Ok, just heard a 2nd Christmas Song this hour on Prime Country.

Heard 2 in 50 minutes this a.m. But other than that, wasn't really listening to closely. :)

However, out of 3 holiday songs, 2 were Faith. Are the songs random, or how are they programmed? No Trisha or Garth yet on either channel, but plenty of their non-Christmas music. :)

Heard Silver Bells by Garth this morning on PC.

Y'all might need to get a life. LOL. Just kiddin' -- you know I love you both! But yes, they should come up at different times each hour, so they won't be an hour apart. Just one slot in each hourly clock. It will ramp back up again closer to the holiday.

It's era based on both channels... so only new music on The Highway -- G&T Christmas music is on Prime.

Although I did give Jay hell yesterday... he didn't have either Ricochet's "Let It Snow" -- BEST version of that song EVER -- or Garth's "Go Tell It On The Mountain" in rotation on Prime. He does now. :-)

I'm trying to talk him into going all Christmas on Prime for 12/24 and 12/25.

Myself -- I'm working on a New Year's Day special! Anyone want to guess what the theme of that would be?

Me get a life - never..

I was thinking on the same lines of going all Christmas but maybe starting on the 21st going through the 25th.

Ha! I hear Midnight Sun and Memory on 16 all the time. :) Not much HHPL stuff, and definitely not lately. :(

Producer J. said...

Don't point out Midnight Sun... I'm sure it's just an oversight that it's still on there! Shhhh! LOL. Actually it's in the same rotation category as Workin' and a couple of the HHPL singles.

Memory will stick around longer, and play more often, being a #1.

Let's hope that whatever they're working on over at Jack's Tracks is coming soon.

I just looked, Prime is playing a lot more Christmas than I realized. Guess they're just festive that way!

I haven't heard Dwight's, but 'Please Daddy (don't get drunk this Christmas)' is the top of my list. John Denver's version is particularly mournful.

I love Garth's 'Winter Wonderland' and 'Baby Jesus is Born'.

I was gonna say, I'm hearing a lot more than one an hour on 17... whatever the heck it is called right now. :) But I'm not complaining. I like that we haven't lost it to all Holiday music but still have a mix. I'd be up for all Holiday programming on the last week. I'm enjoying 35, etc. too though. And a-hem... what is going on at Jack's Tracks? :)

Drove to Bloomington today J, good times. Still haven't road-tripped to Fisher yet though... I need to pace myself. :)
