Mixing Music and Politics

One kid dreams of fame and fortune
One kid helps pay the rent
One could end up going to prison
One just might be president

In response to the Democratic Convention’s use last night of Brooks & Dunn’s song, “Only in America,” the duo’s Kix Brooks offered the following statement:

“Seems ironic that the same song Bush used at The Republican Convention last election would be used by Obama and the Democrats now. Very flattering to know our song crossed parties and potentially inspires all Americans.”

Kix Brooks - Brooks & Dunn

How FANTASTIC is it that a country song was chosen!!! This is such a universal song that crosses all American life with no party association. Good choice IMHO. I wish they would play the live version though (on the special edition Greatest Hits II CD [Walmart I think]) where they reference the military and Ronnie, as usual, sounds great even better live than on the studio version. Hillary Clinton was using OIA as was Mitt Romney. John McCain is using B&D's THAT'S WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT. So country and B&D are on both party lines play lists LOL.

I was wondering how B&D would respond to this. It's my understanding that candidates don't have to ask to use a song -- everything is game. Great response from Kix. Kudos to him, Rogers and Cook for composing this great song!

I was surprised it was used because I thought Brooks 'n Dunn--or maybe it's just Brooks?--are Republican, and I thought someone would have told whoever chose that song. Other than that, no biggie. :)

I was sitting in a room full of actors and theatre people at about 2am (when we finished watching the speech, pre-recorded). I was already bawling because of the amazing speech and then I just felt myself full of pride when I heard a country song being played! Of course everyone looked over at me and was like "who is this?". :) Awesome stuff and classy comments by Kix! - lish

They did headline the '04 Republican Convention.

But it's nice when the music transcends party lines.

I've seen so many Obama bumper stickers around here......... I want one that says "None of the above" LOL

My daughter saw one that said "Obama or McCain were F'd either way."

I agree. Ugh I hate voting when I don't like either candidate. I will however vote my hubby's paycheck and vote republican.

Little tidbit.

B&D song wasn't the only country song that Obama's used this year, he also played one of Keith's songs along the way. Here's the article from KA's website.

"At Presidential canidate Barack Obama's rally this past weekend Keith Anderson's song "Sunday Morning In America" could be heard playing after his campaign song "Signed Sealed Delivered". CNN's Bill Bennett referred to it as "a kind of country-western Norman Rockwell tune, and a call for optimism."
