Mr. Big Bucks

I've never understood it when artists put out press releases about the gignormous amounts of money they make, having the highest grossing tour, etc. I'm thinkin' the fans that are scrimping together the money to go to the concert (including parking, a tshirt, a drink) don't want to know that you are rolling around in their hard earned dough.

But that's just me... this press release came out today, so I'll share.

TOBY KEITH IS TOP MALE ON FORBES MUSIC EARNINGS LIST
(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) Singer, songwriter and entertainer Toby Keith has been named one of the world's best-paid music stars by Forbes. Keith ranks No. 3 on the list, behind the Police and Beyonce, with $48 million in earnings between June 1, 2007 and June 1, 2008. Following Keith in the top five are Justin Timberlake and Madonna.

Is this just from music sales? Couple of those people listed are in several different types of contracts (promo's, commercials, appearances, sponsorships etc) - along with side businesses.

Wondering if they are taking gross income from like a tax return or something rather than just from the music industry type activities.

Ticket prices and merchandise prices have gone through the roof for some big artists (most of my favorites anyway!) With that and gas, can't afford to go to the concerts anymore.

Well, good for him... It's stupid they make so much money. The artist should be trying to held the concert prices down, so people actually can afford to go.

I hope he shares some of the money with causes that needs it!

I think it's time for him to retire and stop making records... :D

If he retired then he could spend most of his time with his race horses - didn't he have one that won big this year?

You'd think he would have learned from the gaffe Garth made when he hit Forbes list, even though that was mostly the media that blew it into a controversy.

I concur wholeheartedly.
