George is still the King!

Just got the National Soundscan charts -- King George is the only country artist in the Top 10 - and he's perched at #1. 166, 305 albums sold in week #1.

Country Top 10 looks something like this:

1. George
2. Taylor Swift
3. Alan Jackson
4. Josh Gracin - 18,120 his first week
5. Carrie Underwood
6. Trace Adkins
7. Garth
8. Eagles
9. Robert Plant / Alison Krauss
10. Sugarland

If you've been listening to Strait Country I'd love to know what you think. I'm amazed at the number of songs I've not been exposed to before. His catalog is massive. Reading the email has been fun too. My favorites are the people who demand that if we don't change the channel back to US Country by a certain time, they are going to cancel their subscription. LOL, sorry to tell you, but the deal has been done, they couldn't change it now if they wanted to. (And they don't.) There have been a good number of positive / thank you emails too, although our email address was posted on George's message boards, so it's hard to know how many of them are really listening.

The hope is, this will cause US Country listeners who maybe listen to mostly one channel all day long, to flip around and discover some other channels they're going to fall in love with. With any luck, there will be very few people like me, who went out and bought an Ipod. LOL

Well, I do like George, but not 24/7, thank you. I posted before that my station was on 17 when the switch happened, and I don't generally change stations from the one I'm on unless I get a G-beep. I finally got a G-beep and switched the station, so I probably won't be listening to 17 again unless it switches formats again after 60 days to one where Garth or one of my other beeps come up.

From what I heard, its not bad but I don't listen to one station for a long period of time anyhow beteen beeps or tuning away from I artist or song I don't like. Only thing now is that I am not hearing any Kathy Beeps like I did with US Country.

Haven't got a Ipod yet but did hook up a CD player at work for a few new releases that are out there.

I complained, called to cancel my subscription, and got 2 months free service!

I've been listening to my iPod at work long before the switch was made -- and you know what, I'm a great programmer! Better watch out!

I'm with Paula on this one. I like George, but not 24/7.

You are right though, his catalog is massive!! I have listened to 17 for brief moments and it's amazing how many George songs I don't know!!

I love George. But yes, 24/7 is a lot. I need to buy his new album.
Of topic: J, are you familiar with a site called yes.com, where you can vote for your favorite song/artist as it airs and the information shall reach the radiostations? Is this any use to request songs and get them up the charts, or is it just bulls**t?

I have never heard of it Jona... but the only thing that's going to get a song up the charts is airplay.
