The Giant Reba

...and no, I'm not talking about the Billboard at the West End / Broadway split.

I saw part of CMT Giants last night. It's hard... I think... for other people to cover Reba. After everyone - and I do mean EVERYONE - tried, she got up there and blew them all out of the water. Aside from the Martina / Kelly Clarkson duet I wasn't overly impressed. (I didn't see the whole show - didn't see Wy or Jennifer Nettles I know.) However, I was very impressed with Kelly. To be able to hold your own sharing a stage with Martina McBride is quite a feat.

I've interviewed Reba twice, and both times she gave the same speech she gave onstage about how her fans traveled with her to Broadway, to Hollywood, etc. etc. etc. Someone needs to write her a new script, LOL.

However, what we really need to discuss with this show, is the fashion. And the hair. OMG - could Faith and Trisha have had worse hair? I don't think they could have POSSIBLY gotten Trisha's any bigger. And Faith's makeup! OMG - is that Hollywood's idea of beautiful? And WHO picked her clothes? She had that beautiful silver skirt, and then a frumpy 1960's turtleneck? Did they not have mirrors in the dressing room?

Trisha's dress was not any more flattering either - I don't know why she's so hit or miss in her outfits. I think it's great that she's confident enough to show some skin, but there are some styles that just don't show off your best assets. Strapless with an empire style waist is not for her.

I know there are the fans who will say she looks beautiful in anything. My husband will tell me the same thing. However, there are times when I look in the mirror and say "Hmm... this outfit... not today." You have to police yourself.

Anyway - if you saw the show, feel free to comment... I'm looking forward to seeing the whole show.

I absolutely loved the show. Of course, no one is going to do Reba's songs as well as she does, but I thought they all did her proud.

I agree with you about Faith. When I saw her come out, I thought she had just rolled out of bed. It didn't look like her hair had been touched at all. I actually liked Trisha's hair, but I do agree about her dress.

Faith was all over the place with "You Lie". I don't know how they chose songs, but maybe another one would have been a better option... and a different lipstick color.

Trisha's hair was definitely very big. Didn't think her dress was as bad as the one at the CMA's, thought she looked quite slim in it, actually. *shrug* The song she performed was beautiful--total goosebumps.

Kelly Clarkson impressed the crap out of me, and I was prepared to hate Jennifer Nettles, since that's one of my favorite Reba songs, but it was really good. And I was very happy to hear Martina sing, and not scream, for a change. :P Best line of the night was Dolly telling Reba to "sit her ass back down". LOL

I loved the show!!
Ditto as yall on Kelly!! The chick can sing!!!

On Trisha: I agree that was not the right dress but it was sooooo much better then the high wasted schmata!!
I also agree on Faith's blouse hair and makeup!!
Dolly is just a funny all around person!!

Ok, I explained "egad" now someone needs to explain "schmata"

Blogger let me add 2 pictures and then cut me off. I'm still hoping to get Trisha's big hair on here.

I haven't seen the entire show yet (caught some moments in the theatre lobby as I was in rehearsal today - thanks to uh... "me") but the stuff I did catch impressed the hell out of me.

I know I'm biased but I thought Trisha's performance was downright incredible and she looked absolutely stunning in that dress. I know, and she knows, that she isn't a little girl (neither am I)... but I thought she wore it so well and it was very flattering to me. Her confidence is brewing over and I love it. It's pretty inspiring actually. I mean, I'm no fashion expert, I wear jeans every day of my life... but still. :)

Kudos to CMT for doing this - I'm looking forward to seeing the entire thing.

Oh - her hair was huge, not my favorite style, but it worked. I guess if you've got all that hair - use it, huh? lol.

Oh, and in my world - "schmata" means like an old rag of clothing, or something unfashionable. It gets thrown around a lot at work in the costume department but I think they are actually wanting people in "schmatas" on purpose. I think it's Yiddish...

Cuz I'm an etymologist or something, huh?

I think they went out to Hollywood Blvd. to recruit for makeup artists for this show. All of them had horrendous makeup. Did you see Leanne Rimes' "ROUGE?" It was ick.

Faith didn't look like herself and I agree with whats been said about Trisha's hairdid. She looked like a crack whore with that and the makeup. She sure sang good though.

I thought the show was great. (Shocking, yes). I watched the whole thing. I loved her and Dolly singing "How Blue" and it made me, once again, wish Reba would cut a real country album, ala "Today All Over Again" country. Simplified Reba. I think her fans would love it.

I kept hoping they'd put a closeup of her son. Good lord, he's done growed up.

I am a huge Reba fan and therefore I loved every minute of it -- what Reba fan wouldn't love Reba's peers paying her all of the deserved compliments that they did? And the performances, for the most part, were great. LeAnn Rimes really surprised me with her performance of "The Greatest Man I Never Knew" -- sung with the same emotion as Reba gives it -- could be the song hit close to home for LeAnn. I've seen Kelly perform before (with Reba in fact) and she did an awesome job on "Does He Love You" with Martina. I felt she overdid "Why I Haven't I Heard From You" -- didn't like her screaming in parts during that performance and totally missed Reba's sass! Trisha did an incredible job on "If I Had Only Known" -- had to go for the Kleenex during that one!
I was so into watching Faith struggle with performing "You Lie", that I just never connected with the lyrics. It's an incredibly difficult song to sing; Reba still has it included in her concert setlists and personally I feel she needs to remove it. She just can't hit those high notes in the song anymore and when I'm in the audience, I feel myself holding my breath hoping she gets through it!
No other memorable performances to speak of for me other than, of course, the lady herself singing/performing "Fancy"! One word: AWESOME!
There are a lot of female country singers out there right now who could benefit from watching Reba perform and how she connects with her audience. In my opinion, there are way too many just singers out there and not enough entertainers!
I'm not into clothes so I won't comment on the outfits other than to say, did you know that Reba designed both dresses she wore that evening? Makeup: Faith's makeup person needs to be fired; she looked terrible!
I've got my fingers crossed that CMT might put out the show on DVD; however, I did tape the show just in case they don't!

I got to see the end of it last night. I would agree on all of the comments about clothes and hair etc. What were they thinking!

I loved Trisha's song - but the thing that did it for me was Barbara's comments before the song - that sent the stage for an emotional event and Trisha sure made it emotional.

Couple other things that I liked/noticed that are sort of 'off comment'.

I didn't expect to see much of Shelby. Reba doesn't seem to put him in the lime light too much but he sure is handsome and 'growed up'. He gets his looks from his Daddy - hubba hubba!

And did anybody see LeAnn Rimes husband dancin' away during Fancy?

I like the Martina/Kelly duet but other than Reba and Linda themselves I think my favorite was Jamie O'Neal/Carrie Underwood doing it on the 'Best Duets Show' (think thats the name).

CMT does have about 60 pictures up on their website of the event.

Ok, I shall conceed that perhaps I was hard on the performers. Again, not having seen the show top to bottom it may have been hard to get into the spirit of someone else doing those classic songs. But obviously the show was really well put together (even if the performers weren't, LOL.)
