Since I am not seeing the press conference, I cannot comment. Hope someone comes here soon to tell us what he said.

Teach it's too early yet!!!

Just what I thought much ado about not much. What a pity. I'll be saving my $13 to buy Trent WIllmon's new CD Broken In in January.

Pam said...

And still no iTUNES. He can say its because he wants people to experience the album as a whole, but me thinks it ahs more to do with album sales than anything else.

DaveBrz said...

Great question asked there and he excepts fans to buy the CD even though the songs are on multiple albums already.

DaveBrz said...

Pam, you are correct it has do do with album sales.

iTunes does release albums set to where you can only buy the full album. I don't believe what I am hearing.

How can Scott Borchetta describe this press conference as "historical"? This could have been done with a press release. I predict today will alienate even more people than the last couple "comebacks".

I'm glad to see something sort of new. I still wish we could have had some sort of concert format, but I respect his opinion and know why he's doing it. I'm actually not getting a video, but I've got audio.

Limited release - I call BS as I can still find his other so called limited albums out there.

Overall grade for today: D

Grade if no expectations were placed on today: C

He said he expects FANS will want to buy the album. Obviously, the responses here so far are from people who are not fans. I cannot wait for this new album and I cannot wait to hear the four new songs. BTW, no one is forcing you to buy anything.

Anonymous said...

he did mention briefly the WalMart "Thank You" concert, so there is something of a concert to be looking forward to.

Anonymous said...

Not impressed - nothing new. Came across as a plea to buy the same old songs again so he can sell more albums. Have to admit the album covers are nice tho. I hate when he talks about being unable to look after his children and work at the same time - I think it disses working parents everywhere.

I thought Garth was as honest as he could be during a live press conference to the world. Looking forward to hearing the new songs, as well as getting quality copies of Garth videos, old and new--worth the price alone. Besides, there was no mention of no concerts, just no tour. ;-)

I find we tend to place too much expectations on things, and should just have an open mind.

I'm happy for the Ultimate hits. Looking forward to four new songs, and the new videos!! :) The album covers where just amazing. I'm gonna buy them both! I am a fan ;) He didn't completely said it won't be any concerts. Just not any tours.
I think the press conference was great!

I see a few reasons to be happy...

1) We got to see and hear Garth 'chat', if you will, which is something we don't get too much of these days.

2) There IS new music, including a song that he talked about years ago that I, for one, wanted to hear! And... the price ain't all that bad. Oh yeah... and new videos?

3) He is honoring his family and being a man of his word. I was concerned about him talking his way out of that commitment and couldn't imagine him changing his mind after such a strong decision in the first place.

4) We may not get a tour, but it sounds like we will be getting a performance... he just couldn't go into the details at this time. Not to mention all of the running around he will be doing during the four months mentioned... Leno, etc.

I'm happy. :D

I'm excited, & I like the hoopla! Garth is Garth, and he can only be what he can be, and do what he can do. I didn't get myself over excited, and I was pleased with the press conference & that he went through the trouble of letting us witness it, he didn't have to. I liked the Limited Edition cover, I'll probably buy that one. It all sounds great! I wish there was more Trisha tidbits, but maybe more will come out later. And there's still the Opry tonight!

How much would Elton John, The Eagles, Tim Mcgraw, Rolling Stones or the Rolling Stones charge for the same thing? 50 bucks? 75 bucks?

We are getting 33 VIDEOS + 3 new songs for 14 bucks!

Personally, I have seen only 10-15 Garth vids. I am PUMPED up about this.

For 12 quid I'll buy this for the video dvd; my VHS copies of his vidoes are shot. I suss we'll see him on Leno, Ellen, the View, and all the usual chat shows. I'm happy to set up my dvd recorder.

I play the heck out of my cds and some of them don't play any more, so I'll just tuck the cds away as replacements!

OK, I didn't mean to type out Rolling Stones twice.

I disagree that you aren't a Garth fan if you don't like the news... I was hoping for more myself and am disappointed too. I have been a huge Garth fan since I was 5 years old, I'm now 22...

Will I buy it? Of course, I always do.

Otherwise he did look very slim and trim. Those covers are beautiful...
Hope there is something to the cyrptic answer... but I'm disappointed in the itunes thing. Personally I love my ipod, and the fact of the matter is sometimes I don't want a whole album. With Garth I'll always buy the whole thing, but with other artists there are many songs they put on their albums that I want nothing to do with... Funny how he use to sell singles but can't sell singles on itunes.

Anyway, it was nice to see him in any respect, and thank you J for all your kind reporting.

I've been a fan since 1997. I guess my expectations were too high considering all the hoopla. Just because I chose not to buy this release doesn't make me any less of a fan than anyone else.

I also have a bone to pick about not doing music cause it would make him less of a parent. I like being able to get up with my kids and see them off to school and I love that I am able to be here at the end of the day when they come back home. But there are eight hours in between. Plenty of time to do what I want to do. I'd go nuts if all I did was sit around waiting for them to come home. You don't have to be with them 24/7 for them to feel loved and be on the honor roll.

But to each his own. That's the choice he's made and we have to live with it. And it doesn't mean I have to like it either.

If he ever releases all new music I'll be in line to buy it. This time however I chose to pass. That doesn''t mean I'm not a fan, I've just decided to retire from buying what he's putting out.

Joyce, hope to hear what we might have missed with the functions that you are attending. Did I hear you say something about video? :D

I missed the first few minutes because I forgot to refresh...duh.

Anyway, Garth looked great, and I'm looking forward to what's in store, whether revealed or not. He does have a way of dropping little hints without expanding on them that can be interpreted so many ways. He's a master at that.

Hoping that there will be some concerts to attend, even though no tour plans, which I never expected to happen.

I understand both fans who don't want to buy the same music and those who will, with new songs added. I also undertstand Garth's position on not wanting singles plucked from iTunes. It seems that he is trying to make it work with them, but they are still at odds on this one point.

Oh...and by the way, did anyone notice that he added a few more years to where Allie would be 21 before he may fully come out of retirement?

...and how come I didn't see you there? It was good to see Hazel...bless her heart.

Let's just say I agree with Teach and Sandi!!

Anonymous said...

Paula, I think Garth can't do math. Hopefully.

I agree with Pam. Love Garth, love his music, and thought he looked FANTASTIC today, but there's no way I'm paying more money for music I've already bought at least twice before. It's a great price and for people who don't already have one of the previous compilations, this is a great thing, but I'm passing. My purchase of Trisha's CD will be the only money the Brooks-Yearwood household is getting from me this year.

I wish everyone that is not gonna buy it would just not buy it and shut up about it. Believe it or not there are other Garth fans out there other than just the ones that go on PG and on here. Last I checked there aren't over 100 million people on these boards, so obviously people love his music and they buy it. Also just because you have been a fan since the early 90's like me doesn't mean that everyone has. Do you realize that '89 was 18 years ago??? That means there is a person out there right now that is 18 that wasn't alive when the original garth brooks came out. People that have never seen a GB concert think that Kenny is the greatest ever!! All those kids out there buying Taylor Swift and Rascall Flatts do you think they were around when Friends in Low Places came out???. Give the man a chance to reacquaint himself with not only his die hard fans but new fans as well and just country music as a whole:; all this griping and J is the only person that has even heard one of the songs. So why not just give him a chance to make new fans??? Instead of coming online and bickering about what he is doing, remember he doesn't have to give you anything at all. So for those that are happy be happy and for those that aren't then don't be. Like it has been said over and over again noone is putting a gun to your head and making you go buy this. Not to mention do you think he would add songs to a greatest hits package if they didn't belong there??? What about every other artist that just releases the same songs but adds two new ones to their greatest hits??? Are you going to go on their boards and gripe as well??? The first hits never even had a new song and sold 10 million copies, were you griping then or standing in line buying it like everyone else??? Do you think it would be out of print had you not bought it??? Well believe me it would!! I just get so sick of this guy coming out and doing things for the fans and people that call themselves fans griping about everything

Someone that is fed up

I am with Pam too. It is not even about the money that I would spend... it is about releasing the same old songs over and over again. That is really annoying. I don't need to have every song 3, 4 or 5 times!

Garth was looking great. He acted nervous and insecure. We all know he can still do it... I wished he would be sure of that too!

Thanks Joyce for everything you've told us.

I agree completely with Spud and the anonymous person who wrote the looong post just above here.

Here in Oz they have a video special that shows 15 of Garth's videos (or is it 13 and 2 with Trisha...hmmm)anyway, I think it's awesome to get double that again in videos and get the new songs.

I have only known Garth's music since 2003 but I am a huge fan and take in whatever comes along.

A standing ovation for Anonymous (long post)

Just a little thought that I meant to add yesterday but ran out of time...

I don't think Garth put on this big hoopla, GRS and all, just to disappoint people with an announcement about this final project. Yes, in some ways, it probably could have been taken care of with just a simple press release.

I think he did it as a gesture of generosity towards all who were invited. Yes, maybe so that radio would 'treat him well' with the new release and all... but even more so to thank radio for all it has done, throughout his career, to support him and help make him the success he has been up until this point in time.

It seems to me this was sort of a nostalgic looking back at and wrapping up of Garth's career to this point... because whatever he does in the future, after all the girls are grown, the past years of his career will always stand alone as a time unparalleled(sp?lol) in his life or in the history of country music.

Just my opinion. :)
