Grascals Win Again!

Programming note: the show is re-airing right now on XM 14, Bluegrass Junction. It started at 8am ET I am pretty sure.

WOOOOO-HOOOO! The Grascals continue their reign as the IBMA Entertainers of the Year. I'm so proud of these guys! Every time I see something great happening for them, I have flashbacks to Fan Fair... 2004? I was wandering in the exhibit hall when Jen... and maybe Leann & Michelle? found me and told me that I had to come over and meet Jimmy Mattingly, he had this new group, and they'd told him about me and XM. And I met him and Terry E. and maybe Jamie... I think there were 3 of them that day, in a booth at Fan Fair before they even had a record out. They gave me a press kit and little 4 song sampler. And so the adventure began.

It was a great night at the Opry house, and our live show went off without a hitch. I think we got all of the winners except for a couple of the instrument categories on for interviews. My ridiculously uncomfortable high heels came off about 10, so I spent the next 2 1/2 hours running around the Opry House in my barefeet.

I got ready for the show at Gary's work...I had to pick Delaynie up from school and take her to him, where I changed in his office. It's a good thing this dress has used up it's Awards Show Quota... it's very comfortable but makes me look like I have hips the size of an SUV.

Another tidbit from the Opry House, I got to see the dressing rooms they redid for the DIY show that is airing this weekend, I'm sure if you google you can read a press release about it with times. They're different. I kept meaning to go take a photo of them, and I didn't get around to it.

I did talk to Jimmy about the KC shows -- he will be there, they start rehearsing soon. He is not doing the OK Centennial show, that is not a full band show. And unfortunately (my words, not his) The Grascals are not Garth's opening act which I think would have been brilliant (really... they're the Two Time and Reigning Entertainers of the Year!) and neither is Trisha, not that I think anyone expected she would be.

Now closed circuit to all GarthNutts: Breathe. It's going to be ok. You're gonna have to trust me on this... but you're not going to be disappointed.

Excellent, excellent! I saw Jimmy a few minutes away in Bristol for the Rhythm & Roots Reunion and he basically said without saying that there would be a concert and he would be there. Great, great guy!

I'm looking forward to sitting in front of the screen Saturday hitting that refresh button. It'll be stressful, but fun in the end - hopefully lol! Thanks Joyce for all your info... my first post here, but I often read!

Good to hear about Jimmy. I'm still nervous though. I just learned my part of Iowa is not included in the areas that are allowed to buy tickets.

I wonder exactly what the OKC performance will be. I know people with tickets for it wondering the same.

J, you look fantastic, and so does your new haircut!!! :D And CONGRATS to the Grascals, how awesome!!!

Garth...what can I say. :)

Snakeeyes, the ticket restriction is only for the first show! All signs point to more than one.

Love your dress. And CONGRATS to the Grascals :D

Welcome to Wes and Snakeeyes !

I don't know about the OK performance, but what I'd love to hear is that he came out with just his guitar and played some Haggard.

:-D

Let me correct Sandi to say that the ticket restriction is only for the first show to go on sale. ;-)

Again, you rock! :-)

Your hair must have been really long. I was expecting something much shorter...looks great...as do you in all your finery.

Congrats to the Grascals! I didn't get to hear the show last night. :-(

Congrats to the Grascals!! I saw Jimmy in Oslo in March, playing for Dolly Paron. That was great.

You look great, J. The dress is awesome, and I think you new haircut looks fantastic.

I know you wrote Breathe for the Garthnutts, but this make me even more nervous ;) And I get really confused about this... More show? Restrictions is only for the first show to go on sale? OK, I guess I will know by Saturday (afternoon for me). But this is almost killing me.
Thanks J, for all the info. :)

You look great!! Love the haircut!

Breathe Jona!

Yes, residency restrictions are only for the show on the 14th. The rest of the world is going to get taken care of.

Seriously... if you need a passport to get to the show, getting the ticket to one of these shows is the easy part! If you want to worry about something, worry about the ridiculously long plane ride. But know it's going to be worth it.

BTW, my daughter's school has "adopoted" a public school here in Nashville to correspond with and take Christmas presents to - it's a school where a lot of the students are immigrants, and Laynie's pen pal is from Norway!

Oh, and regarding my hair... yes it was long, and it was all one length. You can't see really in this photo, but there are a bunch of layers now, because I hacked off a bunch of the bulk.

But believe me, by about 9pm, I was missing the ability to just throw it all up in a ponytail.

So what does that mean, the restriction is only for the show "to go on sale"? Basically, you can still go if you live somewhere else, but happened to get tickets from someone who lived in those states? I thought that was understood--not like they're going to be carding you. :P

Read me again. ;-)

"The first show" - suggests that any additional shows would take place after the first one.

"The first show to go on sale" is a whole different ballgame. That merely means that it's the first show that tickets will be sold for.

Could be the first show. Could be the last show. Could be somewhere in the middle. Could be all of the above if it's the only show.

But it won't be.

Congrats Grascals, I always think back to that day at Fan Fair too that is too funny.

Your hair looks great J. I love it.

Is it really bad how jelous I'm getting of this Garth concert. Man I want to go soooo bad.

Your hair looks really cool! I thought SUV's were a lot larger than your hips, btw ;-)

And oh... I hope Garth will come to Europe (maybe Dublin?) for a couple of shows... I would so love to take my kids to one!! :D

Can I please edit my comment?

Please read: "I thought SUV's were a lot larger than your hips look in this dress, btw! ;-)"

Great pic J!

I have to breath too!
So Trisha's not the opening act, but I wonder if she will still pop up during his show?
Garth's driving me nuts, I guess that's why they call us Garth nuts! lol

Anonymous said...

Regarding opening act not being Trisha and not being disappointed:

Is it Rascal Flatts? I know they are big Garth fans and don't have tour dates scheduled.

Anonymous said...

BTW, you looked great in your dress Joyce!

Thanks J! I think I can manage to breathe now. Yeah, the aire-faire will be VERY long. It will take me about 17-18 hours to KC. But I'm sure it would be worth it!

So cool your daughter has a pen pal in Norway!!! :D

hmmmmmmmmm...LOL...i do believe the Oklahoma Cowboy has done outsmarted us all...including the scalpers. i KNEW he'd take care of everybody. $9995.00 for one ticket online??? yeahhhhhhh right...Garth's gotta plan. just sit back and relax folks. IT'S GONNA BE ALRIGHT!!!

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the welcome J! Yes I would like to see Garth, guitar - maybe a little 'Okie,' 'Stay Here & Drink,' 'Mama Tried.' Garth's always done a good Hag.

As far as the opener, Rascal Flatts would be great, so would Keith Urban. I could see Huey Lewis (given 'Workin') or Lee Brice (MTAM). To be honest, whoever's opening's just going to be the cherry on top. And then Trisha's likely going to be there too so... just a great, great time for the G-Nutts

I'm with Paula, Joyce. I thought I was gonna see a shorter cut!!
Looks great.

My head is spinning trying to relax over these tickets!!! LOL

Dave!! Great meeting you last night at Joe's Pub!!!

$9,9995.00?? I saw some for 14,000.00!!! Almost had a heart attack.

Joyce, you look stunning. What a beautiful, talented lady!

Producer J. said...

I don't know that we've even heard for sure that there WILL be an opener, have we? I just know it isn't The Grascals or Trisha. Surely she'll pop up at a show or two... although she's going to be busy promoting her album during that time.

Do NOT go telling me my hair is not short! It's GONE! I am going to have to find a 'before' picture. LOL

Anonymous said...

Isn't your profile picture here enough of a before picture? :)

And btw, this'll make it a whole lot easier to play hairdresser!! :D

Anonymous said...

Like some others I was expecting a shorter do too...lol! You look fabulous!:)

I just got my passport 2 weeks ago... you've given me some hope J.
Thanks!!

Producer J. said...

I bought a box of hair coloring tonight... actually.

Your hair looks great, the dress doesn't make you look anything but lovely, and I knew you'd have the scoop.

Our daughter is getting married tomorrow, and I'm well out of the area. I've no doubt I'll see this show from the comfort of my front room.

Is the hair coloring traveling with you next week? :P

Producer J. said...

Congratulations to Barbara!!!! Enjoy the big day!

I am hoping the hair coloring is on my head by next week. :-D
